Chapter 3: Books
1) Books have changed human experience in so many ways. They have accelerated the exchange of ideas and information among a more vast area. They are the primary source for future generations to be educated about their society and to learn the lessons of the past.

2) Some pros to marketing in the book industry are:
-Sales of books are rising every year
-Books will always be around
-More and more books are being produced into movie blockbusters
Some cons to marketing in the book industry are:
-Companies like, Google, are developing ways to have a huge library of books available online
-Studies show that today's younger generations don't read as much as older generations
-It is a very expensive industry

3) Yes, I believe that book publishers should get a share of the Google Print Library because if it wasn't for those publishers then those books would have never been available to the public.

Chapter 4: Newspapers
1) Newspapers are important in the lives of most Americans because newspapers cover more news at greater depth than competing media. They are also in a more range of languages and other cultures.

2) The USA Today has changed since 1982 in many ways; in the mid-1990s editor David Mazzarella produced longer, weightier stories and depth and enterprise coverage. In 1999, editor Karen Jurgensen pushed reporters to scoop competitors on major stories and to emphasize thoroughness and depth in their enterprise coverage.

3) The New York Times is regarded as the best U.S. newspaper because of many things, their fair and thorough coverage of foreign news, its a newspaper of record by always printing the president's annual state of the union address and other important documents of this nature. The Times also puts out a monthly and a annual index that lists every story. There is also more than 100 years of the Times pages available online in many libraries.

Chapter 3: Books
1. Books have always been around to help people in all differenet ways. People relied on books for Bibles, we rely on books for education, some rely on books for entertainment.
2. Pros:
- more factual information
- sales of books keep rising
- more books are being made into movies.

Cons:
- expensive
- children read less books
- taking money away from publishers

3. Yes, of course book publishers should profit from the Google Print Library project. The publishers' work is what made it possible for Google to put the books online.

Chapter 4: Newspapers
1. The newspaper is very convenient. Wheather it is a small town journal, or a large published newspaper, newspapers are all the local information posted in one paper. Sports, weather, events, and news are provided in one piece.

2. The content of the stories have changed. Now the stories focus on short, to the point important stories.

3. The "Times" contains a little bit of everything. They publish history, current events, funnies, and most importantly, what is happening in our governemnt and war currently. Also, they focus on foreign affairs and every year they state the President's State of the Union Address.

Ch. 3 Books
1.) It helped scientists learn from each others discoveries. It exposed people to new ideas and people were able to print books in their own language.
2.) Pros:
more new titles of books a year.
sales are going up.
Cons:
online sites trying to convert into online books (ex. Google).
Stillstuck in the old way of doing things.
3.) I think that they should get something, but they already got paid for getting the books out there so they shouldn't expect a huge payday.

Ch. 4 Newspapers
1.) Newspapers cover more news at greater depth and they offer a mix of contentnews, advice, comics, sports all in one paper and unlike radios where yo have to wait for what you want to hear.

Chapter 3: Books

1. Books became an overwhelming influence on people, from changing how people react to slavery, to giving them religion and or culture. As for society, with moveable type created books became more affordable and less for the elite.

2. Pros: People like books and continue to buy them. The market is very large. Books that get made into movies and people go, “the book was better” and go buy the book.

Cons: The internet hurts the industry a lot. The book industry is costly and less money gets back to the publishers. Have you LOOKED at the price of text books?! Also Young America don’t read as much.

3. As in they get some of the profits? No. It wasn’t their idea and Google is correct. People won’t likely know some book exists and they will link them right to it, so that’s win-win. The book industry doesn’t like it because they fear profit losses more than the greatness of the plan.

Chapter 4: Newspapers

1. So many people learn the weather, news, events among other things everyday from the newspaper. Some can’t function without their newspaper everyday as it is a routine they have engraved into their being.

2. In the mid-1990’s longer, weightier stories and depth and enterprise coverage were added to USA Today, but left the blurb-like stories that had become popular. In 1999 the new editor focused on outsourcing other papers with the 400 reporters at the paper’s disposal.

3. Over 100 years of history, fair and thorough coverage of foreign news, a large and widely respected staff covers in Washington… All things that help to make it the best. The NWT is a newspaper of record, and is archived in almost every library in the US.

Ch 3 & 4

Ch. 3

1) Books have shaped the human experience in many ways. More and more people began reading after Gutenberg's invention. Scientists could write books on their work or read books written by another scientist to develop new theories or test experiments to gain new hypothesizes.

2)Pros and cons of marketing in the book industry:
- many books are being made into movies.
- books contain facts.
- book sales are always increasing.
- a lot of children do not read.
- expensive.
- Google and other companies are developing ways to make books available to read online.

3)Yes, I believe publishers should, in fact, get a share of the Google Print Library because of their progress of getting the book published in the first place.

Ch. 4

1. Newspapers are important in the lives of most Americans because many people read local news daily. They may wake up to read the weather forecast for the day, check out the sports column to see how their favorite teams are doing. People can read a more in depth detail of news rather than watching it on television and listening to a vague explanation of something.

2. USA Today has changed since it was first introduced by first having long and in depth stories to now focusing on short, and straight to the point stories with help from editor Karen Jurgensen.

3. The New York Times is regarded as the best newspaper in the US because it has thoroughly covered foreign news stories since 1851. People can also find over 100 years of pages in online libraries.

1. Books have shaped the human experience, culture, and society because they inform us about our past. They give us a picture and feeling of what was going on at that given time. If I were to ask, "What do you think of the 9/11 terrorist attacks?" Without pictures and words we probably would not think anything unless we were there. Documentation of any event is key to its importance.

2. The pros of marketing in the book industry:
>books will always sell
>textbooks for classrooms will most likely always be a need
>some books have potential to make a lot of money for generations

The cons of marketing in the book industry:
>most titles will never be seen
>it's an expensive industry
>it's almost like gambling, for example HarperCollins lost millions while writing a book with O.J. Simpson

3. Absolutely! Each should have their fare share of what they produced. Without publishers the Google Print Library wouldn't even have a project.

1. Newspapers are important because they have in depth articles on local news, world news, sports, market, and health issues.

2. The USA Today has changed after 1992 focussing on short and to the point criteria with "enticing graphics" aimed for the rushed business worker or traveler.

3. The New York Times is considered the best newspaper in the U.S. because they publish fair and thorough articles of every content. New Times would have to be the most repspected paper aiming for readers of all ages and backgrounds.
