Chapter 7
1) Technology has changed feature films dramatically, but the biggest piece is computer-generated imagery. CGI is the application of three-dimensional computer graphics for special effects. The first use of CGI was in 1976 for the film, FUTUREWORLD, and since then films have increased in graphics yearly.

2) Television networks is to build corporate prestige, which is not the case for a documentary.

3) Adolph Zukor created Paramount and developed many ways of being successful. He used the star system, block booking, and vertical integration.

4) No, because I don't believe they are as popular today or gain enough income, as opposed to box office theaters.

Chapter 8
1) The number of people listening to traditional radio is decreasing.

2) The goal of this new law is to let anyone enter any communications business, to let any communications business compete in any market against any other.

3) Things that have contributed to the growth of public radio are, new satellite radio, talk shows, and high definition radio.

Chapter 7

1. Technology has shaped feature films in many ways. for the longest time they where only in black and white and now we have color. we also have technology with special effects with such films as IROBOT and JARASSIC PARK.

2. a documentary to me is more boring the just give you the facts of what happened while the television is more up beat and might give some feed back on what they think about the event.

3. Adolph Zukor was the founder of Paramount. which is a well know business still located in Hollywood. he also created block booking.

4. no i would not because I dont think that they make enough money compared to the cinemas.

Chapter 8

Chapter 7

1. Technology has changed films in big ways. First, movies were made without sound, but thanks to the Warner brothers, that soon changed. Movies were also made in black and white, but that changed in 1925 when The Black Pirate was the first movie to have color.

2. In a movie type documentary, you have no interruptions, but in a television documentary you might not get a lot out of a particular subject because of the time length they have to stand by, and also commercial interruptions.

3. Adolph Zukor developed the star system which helped make actors into celebrities to get more of an audience. He also created Paramount studios.

4. No, I would not invest into a movie exhibition chain because I wouldn't be sure right off the bat if it would be guaranteed to stay in business, plus competing with multiplexes would be difficult.

Chapter 8

1) The number of people listening to traditional radio is decreasing because of satellite radio or because of iPods.

2) Radio stations are free to compete with whatever station they wish.

3) The growth of public radio audiences can be thanked by high-definition radio and satellite radio.

1. Technology has shaped feature films because the improvements of special effects are phenominal. The biggest part of a movies budget is spent on CGI.

2. Documentaries are different from the way a television news report might treat the same subject because a documentaries focus is to influence its viewers.

3. Adolph Zukor was the innovative creator of Paramount as a major movie studio.

4. No it doesnt seem like it's a major money maker.

1. The number of people listening to traditional radio is on a downward slope.

2. The 1996 Telecommunications Act has reshaped the U.S. radio industry because the FCC has no limits on ownership except for maximum of 8 stations in a single market.

3. I believe that the noncommercial system has contributed to the growth of the public radio audience.

Chapter 7:

1. How has technology shaped feature films?

Technology constantly changes how movies are made and what are put into making a movie. New standards change with new technology from adding audio, to color to certain camera tricks. The use of helicopters and trolleys for high up shots, and the new CGI technology are all things done now that shape how movies are made and viewed.

2. What makes documentary different from the way a television news report might treat the same subject?

Documentaries are usually a single perspective and are usually trying to persuade the viewer to think or see a subject as they see it. Television news is supposed to be neutral.

3. What were Adolph Zukor's enduring contributions to the U.S. movie business?

He created Paramount Studio and also developed a Star System. Not the Milkey Way, but to make actors famous and bring in a crowds that know and like those actors. He also made production more efficient by hiring more people and thus managed to churn out movies on a regular basis. He would sell his movies to independent movie theaters, but usually kept the good ones for Paramount owned theaters.

4. Would you invest your money in a movie exhibition chain? Explain.

I probably would not. I wouldn’t mind being part of the industry like that but it’s too risky and also people tend to wait for the DVD or find the movie bootlegged online somewhere. I think unless I had a partner with great business sense, I wouldn’t invest.

Chapter 8:

1. What is happening to the number of people who listen to traditional radio?

Traditional radio is dying. Music is everywhere right now, and it is much easier to download or buy the CD and put it on your Ipod or MP3 player. It appears that Radio’s growth has peaked.

2. How has the 1966 Telecommunication Act reshaped the U.S. radio industry?

First thing first, did the book mean 1996? I couldn’t find 1966. With the Act, the limits on how many radio stations a single company could own increased. Immediately radio companies assimilated one another through mergers. The FCC has no limits on ownership except a max of 8 in a single market. Since then the FCC and Congress have relaxed the limits more. Soon they’ll be no limit at all…

3. What has contributed to the growth of public radio audiences?

Satellite radio has contributed heavily to the growth of public audiences. Also, talk shows, new shows and NPR.

Chapter 7 - Motion Pictures

1. How has technology shaped feature films?

2. What makes documentary different from the way a television news report might treat the same subject?
- Documentaries are typically longer and therefore need more facts to support it. A simple news report only covers the most important facts and tend to stay neutral. Documentries can be neutral but the common theme lately is a bias to one side. They offer much more when it comes to shock value as well. Sitting down and watching a hour or more of a documentry (like "Super Size Me") can have more of a life changing effect on someone than a 5 minute news report.

3. What were Adolph Zukor's enduring contributions to the U.S. movie business?
- Adolph Zukor created the "Star System" which made simple actors into celebrities which in turn increased audiences. He also helped bring mass production into the movie business.

4. Would you invest your money in a movie exhibition chain? Explain.
- I would not invest my money in a movie exhibition chain because it is getting too expensive to purchase all the up-to-date equipment that is needed to run most motion pictures. Plus in today's society most people either rent or buy DVD's or download them illegally and this has decreased box office revenues by the millions.
